GET TO KNOW ME

An Immigrant Teacher

Hi there! I am Moumita and I am a High School English teacher. Finishing my Masters in Secondary Education in English from DePaul University, Chicago, IL, with a GPA of 3.9, I am proud of my passion, enthusiasm, and dedication to work full-time as a high school English teacher. I have taught in two reputed schools in India, Asia, for two years. Having completed both my bachelor’s and master’s degree in English Literature as well as a second bachelor’s degree in Education from University of Calcutta – a Grade A university in India and a member of United Nations Academic Impact, I am confident that my educational credentials are at par with requirements for a High School English Teacher position.

Given my international background and heritage as well as my upbringing in a multilingual household, I always try to incorporate my real-world experiences into my classroom lessons as they help making different lesson topics seem more relevant. This helps me approach my students with a global context and mindset. Growing up in a multilingual household and learning to communicate fluently in English, Hindi – the national language of India as well as Bengali – my native tongue, I can identify challenges that multilingual students often face
and can guide them appropriately to overcome such challenges. Outside of education, I enjoy traveling to new places with my husband, trying different local cuisines!
